Post by Rolex » Sat Feb 01, 2014 1:30 pm

Aldi are having their caravanning sales again this Saturday the 8th.

Thanks Nev

I did have a quick look but as I have no interest in a van cover I did not see Mally's post..

Has anyone had experience with their van covers?
How loose fitting are they - would the 18 to 20 footer actually fit a 21 footer, for example, as some brands tend to have plenty to spare?

Yer it was a bit of a tea and bun fight. I went to Aldi at Wynnum. Line up behind about 40 others. There were only ten covers available. I will be at Umina on Saturday see how I go this time. I reckon you could set up a stand and sell egg rolls and coffee tp the people waiting in the queue. ;-)

Well Cyclone, at one of the 3 stores in Toowoomba, went there late last year, and people had their own chairs, coffee and sandwiches, waiting for the store to open.

You comment may not be far off the mark.

Aldi have a great returns policy so by a few sizes and take back the ones you don't want.

Take em back! You would have no trouble offloading them on the forum.

Checked the brochure, and the only thing I would be interested in is the levelling blocks. The van covers are to small for our van.... bugger!!!!
Not sure if I will visit the store this morning and fight to get the blocks?????
The Aldi non food specials like those down the centre aisle are classed as Variety, and believe me, they carry a huge mark up, so what sort of profits are other retailers in the camping game making???

Hi Jay&Dee,
Those blocks are good for single axle vans. I find they are a bit long to fit between the dual wheels.

Hi Cyclone and Jay & Dee,

We have a tandem axle van and often use only one block to level the van if only a small lift is needed. The load sharing axles tend to halve the lift of one block. The wedge ramps would work in small lifts.
I only use blocks of timber from Bunnings off-cuts.
The only problem I found with blocks of timber is that they can sometimes skittle away from the wheels as you are trying to drive or back onto them. This can be overcome by cutting a wedge shape into the timber.
Back to topic from ALDI we have purchased a van cover, an entry step, a gas top espresso coffee maker, a notebook computer (5 years old and still going well) and a computer tablet for the Owner/trainer so that she can waste a lot of time on Facebook etc.
With the step I cut some aluminium tubing and drilled matching holes in the top to fit the legs of the step to stop the legs from digging into the ground in long term use - works well and is a safety modification.

Cheers CHONGA

Chonga,
I have the very same wooden block for levelling, but SWMBO (the little lady) said it would be good if we had those levelling blocks from Aldi, so you guessed it, we now have the aldi gear. Also bought a director chair.
Aldi gear seems to be ok, and no issues re replacement etc.
